Who may submit their story?

Anyone who has hiked a central coast trail and has an interesting story to tell may submit their story for consideration.  You don’t have to be a professional writer!

May I submit more than one story?

Yes, however, no more than one story per person would be featured in the book.

What hiking trails can be featured in my story?

Any public access hiking trail on the Central Coast, CA (Santa Cruz to Ventura).

How long should my story be?

Around 500-1500 words.

When are submissions due?

By or before March 31, 2021.

How will you determine which stories will be selected for the book?

Entries will be selected based off the featured hiking trail (we can’t feature 5 stories about the same trail) as well as how well the story ties into the theme of the book.

Will you let me know if my story was selected for the book?

Yes, people who submit a story that is chosen for publication will be notified.

How many stories overall will be featured in the book?

15-30 submissions will be chosen for the book with each featuring a different Central Coast trail.

If my entry is chosen for the book, will I get paid?

Unfortunately, there is no monetary compensation if your entry is chosen.  If the book is published, you will be able to proudly share with others how you are a part of the hiking collective.

When will the book be published?

To be determined….

A draft of the book will be submitted to multiple publishers for consideration.  Self-publishing may also be an option.

May I mention my non-profit or business in my story?

Yes, nonprofits and businesses are a part of who we are and what we are passionate about. However, be sure the story ties into the theme of the book with a Central Coast trail being featured.

May I choose photos to accompany my story?

If you have photos that accompany your story, you may submit them for consideration. However, their use in the book is not guaranteed. You must have full ownership of any photo submitted, as well as allow permission for it to be featured in the book.  Photographs should be 300 ppi minimum.

Will you make changes to my story?

Stories will be reviewed by a copywriter and may be edited.
